Interview With Maxim : MAXIM: First time on the cover of Maxim. We’re quite thrilled, what about you?
Chitrangda Singh: This is the first time I’ve done a shoot like this. It was fun, and I liked doing it. Thanks, guys!
M: You must be awfully proud for being one of those who’ve brought back dusky and sexy in this land of the obsessed-with-fair-skin. We think you girls deserve an award for managing to break this myopic nonsense.
CS: Yeah, this is the Indian colour. I’m pretty proud of my duskiness, I’m fine that I’m not your North Indian fair girl. We should be proud of our Indianness and the colour of our skin is pretty indicative of that.
M: So would you date sincere Indian guys like us?
CS: Well, you’ve to be really persistent. Very, very persistent and I might just go out with you.
M: Point taken. But tell us this, does being a stunner help?
CS: Of course it does. Especially in the film industry, where looks play a vital role. In our country, looks are very, very important. It’s not so much about the characterisation as the beautification of the character that makes looks so important in films.
M: You’ve managed to marry sexy with a kind of dignity. How do you do that?
CS: I don’t know. There’s no strategy to it. In fact, women have asked me how I manage to look so mysterious. Maybe it’s the way I think, maybe it’s the way I am. You can never figure who you are, other people figure that out for you.
M: Let’s figure you out. Your favourite celluloid sex moments?
CS: The lovemaking scene from Top Gun. We were teenagers and Tom Cruise was my greatest fantasy. Then there’s the scene from City Of Angels between Meg Ryan and Nicholas Cage. The Dimple Kapadia-Anil Kapoor scene in Janbaaz was extremely sexy too.
M: Sharon stone in Basic Instinct or Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman? Choose.
CS: Definitely Julia Roberts.
M: So, you’re someone who believes in fairy tale romances?
CS: Yes, every girl is a hopeless romantic.
M: Ever been unlucky in love? We find it hard to think so.
CS: Oh yes, and in hindsight, it was good that I experienced that.
M: Which actor would you not mind getting intimate with, if the role demands it ?
CS: Shah Rukh Khan. He’d be fantastic in a role like that. Ranbir Kapoor would also be fab. He’s played the innocent boy role so many times now, it’d be great to watch him play something complex and complicated. Then there’s Saif Ali Khan. He’d be really good too.
